I knew I wanted heavily textured images inside my book as well as a variety of different toasts (though I am not quite sure yet if I would like that to be graphically illustrated or actual images) but just in case, I thought I would take some images in order to have some idea of content done.

i bought rye, rustic loaf, and white bread in order to get a variety of textures and shapes and to depict different toast recipes.

these, along with the illustrations will serve as my visual identity as far as I have determined this far. I do not want it to be visually too overwhelming though, so much of this content will either not be used or will be manipulated to fit the style of the book that I ultimately go with.

as i create my first draft, i also discovered that along with black and white (toast-burnt) i should also use another color–this color being golden brown toast color.

i needed to also develop my beyond the toast images, so i first made a pinterest board of the style of image i wanted to take and some options of toast ideas I could create. then bought and toasted lots of bread🙂
